Our transition to VCloud TV begins with the launch of our VCloud TV net PVR function, our unique cloud-based access to the ‘over the air’ channels in our local markets. VMedia now allows our subscribers to access any TV program shown on 16 channels, for up to seven days, at anytime, without the need for a PVR in your home. The content will be cached for our subscribers at your request, to allow you to view those shows at your time of preference. Robust Computers
Still too limited for me to consider. I assume the rights holders are preventing full PVR functions. Why can I PVR their channel on Rogers but not on VMEDIA? What is the practical difference?
I understand your frustration as I need to record Stewart and Colbert. Sure, it is somewhat limited right now, but this is ground breaking. It will take some time. I personally think that companies who take advantage of technology instead of limiting the public’s ability to use it will be more successful in the long run. Going up against the big three is a tremendous task and I have every intention of supporting this company in its efforts. As VMedia evolves, more and more features will become available.
I am really excited as I explore this new feature. It essentially stores seven days of content. You can watch anything you missed.
Although I’m happy to see progress, I really hope to see TSN on this list soon.
How the heck do I get my shows? Can’t find them anywhere!
With my remote how do I enabke PVR services? I’m being told on the TV that I need to go to settings and I can’t find a way to activate the feature.
Just not good enough. The article goes on about how you don’t need a PVR, bla bla bla. Except that you get a whole 7 days to watch everything you want to watch. That’s only slightly better than having to sit down and watch it when it’s actually first shown.
We PVR a lot of stuff. (We record _every_ new show each fall and throughout the year for example) So yeah, lots of stuff we don’t even end up watching — lots of shows get cancelled before we even get to them.
But we have the freedom to start watching a show in May that started in September in when there is nothing new on television anyway. Or that show that everybody says is good but we didn’t want to waste our time to start watching until we heard it was going to be good, etc.
7 days to watch the shows you want to watch is just not good enough. We frequently go many weeks before we watch even the shows we are interested in. We let episodes stock-pile and then watch a bunch and then move on to another show where the episodes have been stock-piling.
Yeah. 7 days just doesn’t cut it I’m afraid.
Clearly this is the content owners putting this restriction up. Otherwise why would VMedia restrict themselves this way? Disk is cheap. They’d keep shows for weeks or months if they were allowed to I’d guess.
So what options are there for PVRing from VMedia in the home? And I don’t just mean 1 channel/show at a time. I want to be able to PVR 5-6 shows at a time.
I really want to sign up but a week does not cut it. I have joint custody of my son (every other week) and we catch up on the shows we watch together sometimes 2-3 weeks later. 3-4 weeks would be perfect for my situation.
