Emmy season is finally upon us \u2013 on Monday night, Hollywood\u2019s biggest stars will come together to honour the best of this year\u2019s television during the 70the Primetime Emmy Awards. In this landscape of increasingly gripping TV series, we could not be more excited.<\/p>\n

Creative Arts Emmy Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n

In case you missed it \u2013 the primetime honours have already begun. Last weekend, the Creative Arts Emmys honoured artistic and creative technical outstanding achievements in a variety of categories highlighting behind-the-scenes work (production, make up, hair stylists). Guest performances were also honoured, as well as outstanding special visual effects, music composition, sound editing, choreography, writing in a variety of series and many more.<\/p>\n

Most notably, John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber, <\/strong>and Tim Rice <\/strong>all joined the exclusive \u201cEGOT\u201d club \u2013 as they became the 13th<\/sup>, 14th<\/sup> and 15th<\/sup> people to win Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards following Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert<\/em>\u2019s win in Outstanding Live Variety Special category.<\/p>\n

The Creative Arts Emmys also made history when all four best guest-acting awards were earned by black actors. Tiffany Haddish took home the honour for best guest accress in a comedy series for her role on SNL<\/em>; Katt Williams won for his role as Willy on Atlanta<\/em>; Ron Cephas Jones won in the best guest actor in a drama series category for his role.<\/p>\n

Nominations <\/strong><\/p>\n

Surprising absolutely no one, Netflix garnered the most nominations across the board with 112 nominations. HBO, perennial leader in Emmy nominations, followed closely with a total of 108. After a year of being ineligible, HBO\u2019s Game of Thrones<\/em> comes back strong with 22 nominations, while NBC\u2019s Saturday Night Live<\/em> snagged 21 nominations, followed by HBO\u2019s Westworld<\/em> with 20 nominations. Last year\u2019s big winner, Bravo\/CraveTV\u2019s The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em>, filmed in Toronto, was another strong contender this year with 20 nominations. FX\u2019s Atlanta<\/em> was another strong contender as the most nominated comedy series with 16 nominations.<\/p>\n

Here are some nominations of note for this year\u2019s show:<\/p>\n

Sandra Oh could make history as the first Asian (and Canadian!) winner for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in The Killing Eve<\/em>. She will be up against another Canadian for the same category, Tatiana Maslany for her role in Orphan Black.<\/em><\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s Lead Actor in a Drama Series winner, Sterling K. Brown, is up for the same award against his co-star Milo Ventimiglia \u00a0for This Is Us<\/em> along with Jason Bateman for Ozark<\/em>. Although he loves to make us cry on This Is Us<\/em>, Sterling K. Brown is also nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his appearance on Brooklyn Nine Nine.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ted Danson\u2019s nomination for Lead Actor in Comedy Series for his brilliant work in The Good Place. <\/em>Also nominated is Donald Glover for indie-hit Atlanta. <\/em><\/p>\n

Wunderkind Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things <\/em>nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Perhaps the category with some stiff competition from Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid\u2019s Tale)<\/em>, Vanessa Kirby (The Crown)<\/em>, and Ann Down (The Handmaid\u2019s Tale).<\/em><\/p>\n

Before the show, nominees, presenters, and executives will walk the red carpet. Tune in to the red carpet show and the 70th<\/sup> Annual Emmy Awards at 8 pm ET. The show will be filled with appearances from top stars from your favourite shows. Saturday Night Live\u2019s Colin Jost and Michael Che will co-host the awards ceremony. Presenters include Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Kit Harrington, Constance Wu and many more.<\/p>\n
